Pippa Blake Endorses Water Fountain Initiative

Three Three years after making a commitment never to purchase a plastic bottle of water, Pippa Blake made use of the newly installed water fountain at Matiatia ferry terminal to refill her water container.

The water fountain was installed at Matiatia Wharf by the Hauraki Gulf Conservation Trust in September with the aim of providing thirsty travellers with the opportunity to refill their water containers with fresh water to negate the need to purchase bottled water.

Lady Blake's support of the water fountain initiative follows a pledge she made three years ago in the House of Commons in London against buying bottled water.

"To this day I have not broken the pledge. I am fully supportive of the Hauraki Gulf Conservation Trust-Auckland Council initiative in the gulf and think it's fantastic that the community is helping to contribute towards a healthy planet," she says.

Lady Blake is a patron for a variety of organisations including the Devonport Yacht Club, and the Blue Climate and Oceans Project based in the UK. She is a founding trustee for the Sir Peter Blake Trust.

Photographer Don Robertson was with Sir Peter when they were attacked by pirates on their yacht in the Amazon.

He is a trustee of the Hauraki Gulf Conservation Trust which was established in 1997 to support the preservation of the natural environment around the Hauraki Gulf.
